45. Start A Second Harvest Program
Bill Liddell is an example of the difference one person can make through Second Harvest. A retired executive for a seed company, Liddell farms is three-quarter acre field in Mount Carmel, Connecticut and delivers the fresh produce free of charge to the Connecticut Food Bank, a Second Harvest agency. For four decades, he tilled the land, canning and freezing enough vegetables to supply his family of six throughtout the winter. Now, through crop rotation and multiple plantings, Liddell harvests 40,000 pounds a year with the help of volunteers who work through October.
Liddell is just one of many suppliers, including Kellogg, Kraft, and McDonald's, that have provided over three billion pounds of food to distribute to the hungry.
