Our local free food pantry ran precariously low on supplies during a long, bitterly cold winter a few years ago. They placed an article in the local paper reqesting donations. The result: food flooded in.
The most common reaction was: "We had no idea that there was a food pantry in our town." And those who did know said that they just assumed there was plenty of food donated.
A single, brief newspaper notice changed the attitude of half the town.
