Fifty percent of all homeless women and children have found themselves in that situation as a result of domestic violence. If you know of such a person, encourage him or her to seek help.
Nearly every state has an 800 hot-line number for victims of domestic violence. The New Jersey number receives over 300 calls a month and, like many other states, offers service for the hearing impaired and provides bilingual assistance. To volunteer call 800 information for the number and then offer your services for the hot-line, shelter assistance, or financial support.
