10. Give Money
One of the most direct ways to aid the homeless is to give money. Donations
to organized charities and social service agencies that serve the homeless go a
long way. Here are a few suggestions:
- make donations to an organization, church, or synagogue, that helps the
homeless. Do it in memory of a late family member of friend;
- if you are inviting guests to a birthday or anniversary celebration,
suggest that instead of gifts they contribute to an agency that helps the
homeless and hungry;
- "adopt" one charity and make regular or yearly donations;
- give to annual drives (United Way, local food drives, etc.);
- help support neighborhood programs to aid the homeless (shelters, soup
kitchens, transitional housing, counseling, services, etc.).
